NENA MLTS Model 9-1-1 Legislation Document Update Available for Public Review and Comment October 28 to November 18, 2008


NENA Technical Requirements Document on Model Legislation, E9-1-1 for Multi-Line Telephone Systems, 06-750, Version 2 (Previously TID 06-501) October 25, 2008.

Recent technology innovations have made it important to update the MLTS Model Legislation recommended in 2000. This revised Policy document reflects changes in IP technology; Implementation & Testing; Training and the use of building code Fire Zones to facilitate the creation of the Emergency Response Location.

The updated document is available for Public review and comment starting Tuesday October 28 through Monday November 18, 2008 at 5pm ET. Comments shall be directed to techdocreview2@nena.org.

A Companion MLTS Technical Information Document Has Been Completed and Posted to NENA’s Website

Industry Common Mechanisms for E9-1-1 Caller Location Discovery and Reporting Technical Information Documents (TID) NENA 06-502, Version 1, October 25, 2008.

The purpose and scope of this document is to help policy officials as well as MLTS Operators/Managers to understand the issues related to identifying the location of users of the system during emergencies. The document points out a number of methods of dealing with this challenge giving reasons to implement and pointing out the benefits of implementing the suggested methods.
